USGS: November Cement Shipments Drop Slightly

Total shipments of portland and blended cement, including imports, in the United States and Puerto Rico in November 2022 were an estimated 9.3 million metric tons (Mt), a slight decrease from shipments in November 2021, according to the most recent USGS Mineral Industry Survey.

Shipments for the year through November totaled an estimated 104 Mt, an increase of 4.4% from those for the same period in 2021. The leading producing states for portland and blended cement in November 2022 were, in descending order, Missouri, Texas, California, Michigan and Florida; these states accounted for 41.8% of cement produced. 

The leading cement-consuming states (Texas, California, Florida, Ohio and Georgia, in descending order) received 35.9% of November shipments.

Masonry cement shipments totaled an estimated 203,000 metric tons in November 2022, a 2.5% increase from those in November 2021. Shipments for the year through November totaled an estimated 2.4 Mt, an increase of 7.4% from those for the same period in 2021. The leading masonry cement-consuming states in November 2022 were, in descending order, Florida, Texas, Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee and California; these states received 60.7% of November shipments.

Clinker production, excluding Puerto Rico, totaled an estimated 7.0 Mt in November 2022, a slight decrease from production in November 2021. Production for the year through November totaled an estimated 73.1 Mt, essentially unchanged from the same time period in 2021. The leading clinker-producing states in November 2022 were, in descending order, Texas, Missouri, California, Florida and Alabama.
